Nurse-led intervention research with its focus on health promotion and disease prevention – rather than on focusing on the treatment of acute medical conditions – is an emerging area in community health care. Dr. Maureen Markle-Reid, CIHR Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Aging, Chronic Disease and Health Promotion Interventions and nurse, is leading the development and evaluation of new interprofessional nurse-led interventions to enhance the health related quality of life of older adults with multiple chronic conditions and their family caregivers.

ACHRU Research Trainee Chosen for one-year TUTOR-PHC Program at Western University

Lisa Garland Baird, a research trainee with the ACHRU, has been awarded a place in a select program in primary health care research at the Western Centre for Public Health and Family Medicine in London, Ontario. TUTOR-PHC (Transdisciplinary Understanding and Training on Research Primary Health Care) is a pan-Canadian, interdisciplinary research capacity building program that trains primary and integrated health care researchers and decision-makers.

Dr. Wendy Duggleby & the ACHRU: A One-of-a-kind Partnership

A one-of-a-kind partnership has developed between Dr. Wendy Duggleby and the ACHRU in which researchers and other University of Alberta investigators, nurses, students, policy makers and stakeholders, in Alberta and Ontario, collaborate on research designed to improve the quality of life for older adults and their family caregivers.

Dr. Jenny Ploeg is the Newest Recipient of the Hamilton Council on Aging (HCoA) 2015 Outstanding Recognition Award

Dr. Jenny Ploeg , co-scientific director of the ACHRU, is the newest recipient of the Hamilton Council on Aging (HCoA) 2015 Outstanding Recognition Award. A founding board member, the council presented the award to Dr. Ploeg in recognition of her many contributions to the life of the HCoA during the past 10 years.

ACHRU Hosts Researchers from the University of Calgary

A collaborative research partnership between the ACHRU and the University of Calgary recently brought two Alberta researchers to McMaster University to learn from each other. Drs. Erica G. Teixeira and Lorraine Venturato spent several days in the ACHRU working with the Ontario-based team.
